Product Description
Product Overview

In a busy body shop, a clear coat has to do more than look glossy on the first day. It must spray smoothly, level well on large panels, resist yellowing on white and light colors, keep metallic basecoats clean and bright, and perform consistently in both hot and cool weather.

JLTL RoyalShield P180-808 is a two-component MS clear coat developed for daily automotive refinishing work. Based on a hydroxyl acrylic polyurethane resin system, it provides a high-gloss, high-transparency finish with good weather resistance and reliable anti-yellowing performance.

It is suitable for full car repainting, accident repair, panel refinishing, vehicle parts coating, motorcycle coating, and electric vehicle shell refinishing. For workshops that need one dependable clear coat for different daily jobs, P180-808 offers a practical balance between finish quality, application tolerance, durability, and cost control.

Why Painters Like Working with P180-808

A good clear coat should not make the painter fight with the material. P180-808 is designed to make daily spraying easier and more predictable.

  • Smooth leveling on full panels: Helps reduce orange peel and uneven texture on doors, hoods, bumpers, and side panels.
  • High transparency: Keeps metallic and pearl basecoats looking clean, deep, and bright instead of cloudy or dull.
  • Good anti-yellowing performance: Helps white, silver, and light-color vehicles stay clearer after outdoor exposure.
  • Flexible thinner adjustment: 5–15 parts thinner allows painters to adapt spray feel according to temperature and panel size.
  • Air dry or bake: Suitable for workshops with spray booths, low-bake ovens, or normal repair bays.
  • Stable daily performance: Built for repeated use in general body shop repair, not only occasional premium jobs.
Product Structure & Film Formation

P180-808 is a 2K clear coat system consisting of clear coat, hardener, and thinner.

[P180-808 Clear Coat]
        +
[P201-106 Hardener]
        +
[Suitable Thinner 5–15%]
        ↓
[Crosslinked Acrylic Polyurethane Film]
        ↓
[Gloss + Clarity + Weather Protection]

The hydroxyl acrylic resin reacts with the hardener to form a dense polyurethane film. This crosslinked film improves surface hardness, gloss retention, weather resistance, and protection against daily washing, rain, UV exposure, and mild contamination.

Temperature-Based Hardener & Thinner Selection

Different climates require different drying speeds. Choosing the wrong hardener or thinner can cause slow drying, dry spray, poor leveling, solvent popping, or gloss loss.

Ambient Temperature Recommended Combination Workshop Benefit
Below 15°C Fast hardener + fast thinner Speeds up curing in cold weather
15–24°C Standard hardener + standard thinner Balanced drying and leveling
25–30°C Slow hardener + standard thinner Prevents dry spray on larger panels
Above 30°C Slow hardener + slow thinner Improves flow in hot climates

For large panels or full vehicle repainting, a slower system is often safer because it gives the clear coat more open time to level before drying.

Real Body Shop Applications
Full Vehicle Repainting

For full car repainting or color-change projects, P180-808 provides enough flow and transparency to build a clean, glossy finish over large surfaces. It is suitable for sedans, SUVs, vans, taxis, logistics vehicles, and used-car refurbishment projects.

Typical use: Full vehicle repaint, second-hand car refurbishment, fleet repaint.

Accident Repair & Panel Refinishing

After panel beating and basecoat repair, the final clear coat determines how well the repaired area blends with the rest of the vehicle. P180-808 works well for doors, bumpers, fenders, quarter panels, trunk lids, and hoods when proper spraying parameters are followed.

Typical use: Door repair, bumper replacement, fender repair, hood repaint.

White, Silver & Light-Color Vehicles

Low-quality clear coats often show yellowing faster on white or silver cars. P180-808 uses a system designed for better color retention and anti-yellowing performance, making it a safer choice for workshops handling light-color repairs.

Typical use: White taxi repaint, silver sedan repair, pearl white bumper repair.

Motorcycle, Electric Vehicle & Parts Coating

P180-808 can also be used for vehicle parts and smaller refinish work such as motorcycle tanks, electric scooter shells, plastic exterior parts, bumpers, and decorative vehicle panels.

Typical use: Motorcycle fairing, EV shell, bumper cover, side mirror housing.

Workshops Without High-End Equipment

Not every repair shop has advanced spray booth control. P180-808 supports both air drying and 60°C baking, making it practical for mid-size workshops, regional repair shops, and high-volume daily repair businesses.

Typical use: General repair shop, local body shop, fleet service station.

Step-by-Step Application Guide
Step 1: Surface & Basecoat Check

Before applying clear coat, make sure the basecoat is properly flashed and dry according to the basecoat system. The surface should be clean, evenly matte, and free from dust, oil, water, wax, sanding residue, or silicone contamination.

Use a tack cloth to remove final dust before spraying.

Step 2: Mixing Ratio

Mix by volume:

P180-808 Clear Coat : P201-106 Hardener : Thinner
100 : 50 : 5–15

For easier workshop measurement, this is generally understood as:

2 parts clear coat : 1 part hardener : 5–15% thinner

Stir thoroughly after adding hardener and thinner. Filter the mixed paint before filling the spray gun.

Pot life: Approximately 2 hours at 20°C. Do not store mixed material for the next day.

Step 3: Spray Gun Setup
Spray Gun Type Nozzle Size Air Pressure
Gravity Feed Gun 1.2–1.5 mm Depends on gun type
Suction Feed Gun 1.4–1.8 mm Depends on gun type
Conventional Gun 3–5 kgf/cm²
RP Gun 2.0–2.5 kgf/cm²
HVLP Gun Around 2.0 kgf/cm²

Recommended spray viscosity: 16–19 seconds with DIN4 cup at 20°C.

Step 4: Spraying Method

Apply 2–3 coats depending on required film build and job size.

  • Flash-off between coats: 5–10 minutes
  • Target dry film thickness: 40–60 μm
  • Allow the film to rest for 8–12 minutes before baking
  • Keep gun distance, overlap, and spraying speed consistent

For full vehicle repainting, avoid spraying too dry on large panels. Use the suitable slow system under warm or hot conditions to maintain wet edge and leveling.

Step 5: Drying & Polishing

P180-808 can be dried by normal air drying or 60°C low-temperature baking.

For higher workshop efficiency, baking helps shorten waiting time before polishing, assembly, or delivery. After curing and cooling, nib sanding and polishing can be carried out if needed.

Suggested finishing sequence:

  1. Remove dust nibs with fine wet sanding
  2. Polish with suitable cutting compound
  3. Finish with mirror glaze or fine polish
  4. Check gloss, clarity, and panel matching under natural light
