VSM 2K Primer Surfacer VS-D1030S is a two-component acrylic polyurethane primer surfacer designed for automotive refinishing, body repair, spot repair and full vehicle repainting.
Used together with VSM Primer Surfacer Hardener VS-D1030H, it helps create a more uniform and sandable intermediate layer over properly prepared steel panels, old paint films, epoxy primers and body filler areas. The product is intended to help cover fine sanding scratches, smooth filler transition zones and improve the appearance consistency of subsequent color and clear coat layers.
This is a primer surfacer, not a direct-to-metal anti-corrosion primer. It is not recommended for stainless steel or galvanized steel surfaces.
After body filler repair, epoxy priming or old-paint sanding, small scratches, transitions and surface unevenness may remain visible. If these defects are not controlled before color application, they can become more noticeable after the topcoat is applied.
VSM VS-D1030S is designed to support the intermediate preparation stage:
Prepared repair surface → VSM 2K Primer Surfacer → P800–P1000 sanding → color coat / topcoat
Its role is to provide a controlled, sandable foundation for the final refinishing process.
2K Acrylic Polyurethane System Uses a two-component acrylic polyurethane structure to support a more stable cured primer film than typical single-component primer surfacers.
High-Fill Surface Preparation Support Helps reduce the visibility of fine sanding marks, minor surface texture and filler transition lines.
Suitable for Repair and Refinish Work Designed for accident repair, localized spot repair, old paint refurbishment and full vehicle repainting.
Supports Final Topcoat Appearance A uniform primer layer can help improve the smoothness, coverage consistency and visual quality of subsequent color coats.
Defined 4:1:2 Mixing Ratio Primer : Hardener : Reducer = 4 : 1 : 2 by volume, helping workshops standardize mixing and application procedures.
Fast Curing Options At 25°C, the coating is fully dry in approximately 30 minutes. At 60°C, it is fully dry in approximately 12 minutes.
Sandable Primer Layer After complete drying, wet sand with P800–P1000 before the next coating step.
Designed for Professional Body Shops Suitable for repair centers, collision workshops, vehicle refurbishment businesses, dealer body shops and automotive paint distributors.
Supports Ambient and Bake-Drying Workflows Practical for workshops using normal-temperature repair processes or 60°C bake booth schedules.
Efficient Repair Process The short, defined pot life and drying schedule can support fast repair-cycle planning when material preparation and spraying are properly controlled.
VSM VS-D1030S is suitable for the following properly prepared surfaces:
Steel panels sanded with P400–P600
Sanded and stable old paint films
Epoxy primer surfaces sanded with P400–P600
Fully cured body filler / polyester putty surfaces sanded with P400–P600
Stainless steel
Galvanized steel
For these substrates, select a suitable dedicated adhesion or corrosion-protection primer before proceeding with the refinishing system.
Correct preparation is essential for sanding quality, film stability and subsequent topcoat appearance.
Confirm that the repair substrate is stable and suitable for refinishing.
Sand steel, stable old paint, epoxy primer or body filler with P400–P600 by dry sanding or wet sanding.
Remove all sanding dust.
Degrease the surface thoroughly.
Allow the substrate to dry fully before spraying.
Do not apply directly to stainless steel or galvanized steel.

Clean and degrease thoroughly.
Apply two controlled coats of VSM VS-D1030S.
Dry completely, then wet sand with P800–P1000.
Proceed with localized color blending and clear coat application according to the selected paint system.
| Issue | Possible Cause | Recommended Practice |
|---|---|---|
| Poor sanding quality | Insufficient curing before sanding | Allow the stated drying time and confirm the film is fully dry |
| Sagging | Excessive wet film, spraying too close or slow gun movement | Apply even coats, maintain 15–20 cm distance and avoid overloading |
| Pinholes | Heavy application or inadequate flash-off | Use controlled coats and allow 5–10 minutes flash-off |
| Visible repair edge after topcoat | Inadequate filling or sanding of transition area | Level filler carefully and sand the primer surfacer evenly |
| Soft primer film | Incorrect mixing ratio or insufficient hardener mixing | Follow the 4:1:2 ratio accurately and mix thoroughly |
| Intercoat adhesion concern | Dust, contamination or poor sanding before topcoat | Wet sand with P800–P1000, clean thoroughly and use compatible coatings |
| Short working time | Material held after activation | Prepare smaller batches and use within approximately 30 minutes at 25°C |
| Comparison Area | VSM VS-D1030S System | Common Low-Cost Primer Surfacer |
|---|---|---|
| Product System | Dedicated 2K primer with matched hardener | Hardener matching and process control may vary |
| Main Function | Repair-surface leveling and topcoat foundation | Basic coverage and intermediate coating |
| Filling Support | Helps manage fine scratches and filler transitions | May require additional coats or more manual correction |
| Sanding Process | Intended for refined sanding before topcoat | Film hardness and sanding consistency may vary |
| Topcoat Support | Helps establish a more uniform base for color and clear coat | Surface defects may be more visible after finishing |
| Drying Workflow | Defined ambient and 60°C bake schedule | Drying windows may be less predictable |
| Process Standardization | Clear 4:1:2 mixing and two-coat process | Results may depend more heavily on operator habits |
| Total Repair Cost | Can help reduce rework and correction steps | Lower purchase cost may be offset by labor and material rework |
This comparison describes general positioning only. Final results depend on film build, surface preparation, climate, spraying technique, curing and the complete coating system.
Used as an intermediate primer layer after sanding and repair work to help create a uniform base before color and clear coat application.
Suitable for repaired steel panels, body filler zones and epoxy-primed areas after proper sanding.
Useful for scratches, dents, scuffs and small accident-damage repair areas after filler shaping and substrate preparation.
The approximately 30-minute full-dry time at 25°C and approximately 12-minute full-dry time at 60°C support planned repair turnover.
Can be used over stable, sanded old paint films to help unify the repair surface before repainting.
