Product Description
Product Overview

Zuotong Z9708 Epoxy Primer is a two-component epoxy resin anti-corrosion primer for properly prepared metal substrates in automotive refinishing and general industrial coating work.

Used with Z9288HT Epoxy Primer Hardener, Z9708 forms a cross-linked protective film that helps improve adhesion between the substrate and subsequent coatings. Its protective mechanism combines a dense epoxy barrier layer with anti-corrosive pigments to help reduce the penetration of moisture, oxygen, salt, and common corrosive contaminants.

It is suitable for steel structures, fabricated metal parts, industrial equipment, commercial vehicles, automotive collision repair, exposed repair metal, and maintenance repainting projects. After full curing and sanding, the primer can be recoated with compatible primer surfacers, polyurethane topcoats, or fluorocarbon topcoats.

Product Positioning
Balanced Protection for Routine Industrial Corrosion Control

Z9708 is positioned for projects requiring stable, practical corrosion protection rather than an unnecessarily complex premium system. It is suitable for conventional steel-structure priming, industrial maintenance, and automotive repair workflows.

Cost Control for Large-Volume Projects

For buyers managing steel structures, municipal works, equipment maintenance, or vehicle refinishing programs, Z9708 provides a practical balance between material cost, application efficiency, adhesion, and anti-corrosion performance.

Compatible Coating-System Foundation

When surface preparation and application procedures are controlled, Z9708 provides a stable primer layer for compatible intermediate and finish coatings.

Key Features
  1. Two-Component Epoxy Resin System

Primer and hardener react after mixing to form a chemically cured epoxy film with stable adhesion and coating strength.

  2. Barrier Protection Plus Anti-Corrosive Pigments

The cured film helps isolate the metal substrate from moisture and corrosive media, while anti-corrosive pigments contribute to the overall protection system.

  3. Strong Adhesion on Prepared Metal

Suitable for properly prepared carbon steel, bare steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and repaired vehicle panels.

  4. Practical Moisture and Humidity Resistance

Suitable for normal industrial environments, metal equipment, steel structures, and maintenance work where humidity resistance is required.

  5. Resistance to Common Industrial Exposure

The fully cured coating system is intended to provide good resistance to common oil contamination, salt water, and mild acid or alkali exposure. Final resistance depends on film thickness, cure, and the complete coating system.

  6. Suitable for Automotive Refinish Work

A reliable primer choice for exposed metal following collision repair, welding, panel replacement, sanding, and bodywork restoration.

  7. Fast Recoat Preparation

Can be sanded after approximately 5 hours at 25°C or 30 minutes at 60°C, supporting efficient workshop turnover.

  8. Controlled Application Window

Offers an approximate 2-hour pot life at 25°C, allowing normal project mixing and spraying without excessive material waste.

  9. Flexible Topcoat Direction

After full cure and P600 sanding, it may be recoated with compatible epoxy intermediate coats, polyurethane topcoats, or fluorocarbon topcoats.

  10. Value-Focused Industrial Primer

Built for buyers who need a mature epoxy anti-corrosion solution with balanced performance and cost control for regular engineering use.

Recommended Substrates
Substrate Preparation Typical Use
Bare steel / carbon steel Sand P320–P400; degrease and remove dust Steel fabrication, repair panels, equipment
Galvanized steel Abrade and clean thoroughly Vehicle panels, metal components
Aluminum Sand, degrease, remove oxidation residue Automotive and fabricated aluminum parts
Stainless steel Abrade and remove oil, dust, contaminants Equipment and decorative metal components
Automotive repair metal Remove welding residue, rust, oil and sanding dust Collision repair and panel replacement
Industrial machinery Remove loose coating, rust, oil and dust Equipment refurbishment and maintenance
Steel structure components Prepare according to project coating standard Municipal, warehouse, and engineering works

Surface preparation is essential. Adhesion and corrosion protection depend on substrate cleanliness, sanding profile, coating thickness, curing conditions, and use of a compatible full coating system.

Recommended Application Process
Step 1: Prepare the Metal Surface

Dry sand the metal substrate with P320–P400 abrasive paper. Remove all oil, wax, sanding dust, loose corrosion products, and contaminants before spraying.

Step 2: Mix the System

Mix:

  • 4 parts Z9708 Epoxy Primer
  • 1 part Z9288HT Epoxy Primer Hardener
  • 1.5–2.5 parts ZK103 General Reducer or ZK301 High-Performance Reducer

Mix by volume and stir thoroughly until uniform.

Step 3: Observe Pot Life

Use the activated material within approximately 2 hours at 25°C. Higher temperatures can shorten pot life.

Step 4: Adjust the Spray Gun

Use a gravity-feed spray gun with a 1.5–1.7 mm fluid tip and an operating pressure of 2–3 kg/cm².

Step 5: Apply Two Thin Coats

Spray two thin, even coats from a distance of 15–20 cm. Allow approximately 5 minutes flash-off at 25°C between coats.

Step 6: Dry Completely

Choose either air drying at 25°C or force drying at 60°C according to the required production schedule.

Step 7: Sand and Recoat

After complete drying, sand with P600 abrasive paper. Remove sanding dust thoroughly before applying a compatible primer surfacer, topcoat, or finish system.
